Nautilus pendant
Please notice the delicate and intriguing piercing of the silver with a jewelers saw. This design is fabricated from 2 sheets of sterling to create strength and intensify the play of light and dark resulting from the pattern of the open sections simulating the chambers of a nautilus shell.
The top layer has the "gas chamber" sections and the inner spiral cut out with the jeweler's saw. Once the top layer is soldered onto the solid sheet of the under layer, the piece is cooled and once again the gas chamber sections are cut out. I like to use my hand held jeweler's saw! The surfaced is then given a hammered texture. The piece is ready to be domed and a finding is soldered on the top to carry the chain. Finally the piece is given a high polish and is ready to be worn.
3/4 " long from top to bottom of shell.
